2012 Summer Reading Program

The program begins on June 15 and ends on August 17, 2012.

Children in preschool through 6th grade may register at our open house on June 15th from 1:30-3:30. There will be crafts, food and lots of summer reading fun! If you can’t make it to the library that day, you can register anytime over the summer in the children’s room. We will be using an online reading log to keep track of the time spent reading alone (or with parents, siblings or friends). Enter the title and author of each book read and the time spent reading. You can also write a short review of each book. No computer at home? Come in to the children’s room and use one of our computers. Create you own log at www.readsinma.org/newton. Check out our summer reading lists here. Search for “summer reading 2012”

There is always something happening in the children’s room in the summer. Visit the children’s webpage here to view our online events calendar. All registered children are invited to an end-of-summer ice cream party on August 13th! Each participant will receive a certificate and enjoy a delicious ice cream sundae.

Children may also participate in our reading for charity program, Readers Reach Out. This year we will be reading to sponsor a bat through Bat Conservation International. We will keep track of our progress by adding bats to our bulletin board. One bat for every five hours read. In addition, for every five hours each child reads, he/she will receive an entry into our raffle for a bat stuffed animal and other special prizes to be awarded at the end of the summer. For more information on Bat Conservation International, check out their website: www.batcon.org.

"Dream Big…Read" is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
