Welcome to Newton Free Library! Our collection of over 500,000 books, CDS, DVDS, magazines, and online resources is yours to borrow or stream! We invite you to sign up for a library card so you can take advantage of all the Library has to offer.

Requirements: Proof of Address & Photo ID
  • Apply for a library card in person at the Newton Free Library or at any other Minuteman library with a photo ID and proof of address.
    • Proof of address can be a drivers license, a lease agreement, or something that was mailed to you (Amazon, a bill, etc) .
    • Personal letters, postmarked within 60 days, can be used as proof of current local address.
    • For patrons who cannot produce photo identification or proof of current local address, someone in an official capacity may attest to a person’s identification and/or address (e.g., someone who works in an official capacity at a shelter to attest to the identification and/or address of a person).
MA Residents (who do not live in Newton)
  • Anyone with a current address in Massachusetts is eligible to get a Newton Free Library card.
    • While anyone in Massachusetts can get a Newton library card, some resources are only available for Newton Residents including, but not limited to: hoopla, kanopy, naxos, and museum passes.
